Grades that show understanding, across your school.

Verela is a learning tool for college courses. Students teach each reading to Jot, an AI classmate, then explain it live, so a grade reflects what they understood, not what they could copy. It runs inside your LMS.

Reading quizzes no longer measure reading.

AI tools answer most quiz questions in seconds. Verela grades what students can explain in their own words instead.

  • Paste is off

Students teach the reading to Jot in their own words. Students who need paste for assistive tools can be given it.

  • Jot knows only what it was taught

Jot takes the quiz using only what the student explained, so gaps and mix-ups show up in its answers.

  • An oral exam, without notes

Jot asks each student a few questions out loud, with a follow-up on each answer. Signs of bots are flagged for the professor and never change a grade on their own.

What your school gets

Inside your LMS

LTI 1.3 for Canvas, Moodle, D2L Brightspace and Blackboard Learn. Students and professors open Verela from the course, class lists come from the LMS, and grades go back to the gradebook. No new accounts or passwords.

Outcome reports for accreditation

Professors tag concepts with course or program outcomes. Administrators get a program outcome report across a department’s courses, with CSV export.

Department defaults

Set defaults for new readings, such as attempts and how much the live check counts, and lock the ones professors shouldn’t change.

Grades you can check

The exam check shows a professor whether Verela grades predict their own exam scores, and question statistics show which questions to retire.

Roles that fit a course

Professors run their courses, teaching assistants can help grade with the permissions each professor allows, and administrators manage school settings.

Accommodations

Extra time, untimed checks, and paste for assistive tools, set per student by the professor.

Private by default

Your school stays in control of student records.

  • Student work is never used to train AI models. Verela doesn’t send students’ names, email addresses or ID numbers to the AI.
  • Under FERPA, Verela acts as a school official under your school’s direct control, and uses student records only for your school’s purposes.
  • Your school decides how long conversations and records are kept. Professors can export or delete any student’s data, and administrators see an access log of who viewed or changed student work.
  • Verela is hosted in the United States, and everyone signs in through your LMS.

Built to be accessible
